An old press for manufacturing cylinder pistons was modernized in several stages. First, the system was completely measured in 3D to accurately plan new hardware. Then, the entire system was virtually simulated to test control, motion sequences, and construction.
The conversion and commissioning took place within a week. I was responsible for programming the three new ABB robots that replaced the old KUKA robots. The motion sequences had to be at least as fast and precise as before.
Thanks to simulation, bottlenecks could be identified, movements optimized, and robot positions ideally chosen.
